Retreat with us each year on the first weekend in March to Camp Tyler in the East Texas piney woods on the shores of beautiful Lake Tyler for the Squatty Pines Storytelling Retreat, a combination festival, conference and family reunion. Our featured tellers for 2008 will be Sheila Phillips and Beth Horner!
Built on the site of a 1920's cotton farm, Camp Tyler is the oldest continuously operating outdoor education center in the country. Plan to stay on site in one of the user-friendly dormitory cabins or bring your camping gear or RV. With activities for teachers, tellers, families and story lovers, this annual event is a chance to slow down and enjoy the art of listening!
The 2007 Henderson Heritage Syrup Festival was November 10th!
Join us each year on the second weekend of November for the Henderson Heritage Syrup Festival. With traditional crafts, old timey exhibits, live music, great food and storytelling, this is an event for the whole family. The East Texas Storytellers host the Storytelling Pavilion just adjacent to the Depot Museum. Come by and tell your story or just sit a spell and listen!
East Texas Storytellers is an affiliate of the Tejas Storytelling Association, a group of story enthusiasts who share tales and tunes with audiences in East Texas. Our meetings coincide with planning various events. Some of our members perform professionally, while others enjoy telling for the love of narrative. Annual events that feature our members include area art festivals, school and church performances, library storytimes, the Texas Storytelling Festival, the Rusk County Heritage Syrup Festival and our own Squatty Pines Storytelling Retreat. We welcome new members or invitations to tell stories.
The 2008 Texas Storytelling Festival is April 9-11!
The premier event for storytelling enthusiasts in Texas each year is the Tejas Storytelling Association's Texas Storytelling Festival held in Denton, Texas. With three days of celebrating story Texas style, this annual get-together is a favorite for tellers and listeners. NEW THIS YEAR!!! The Texas Storytelling Festival will be on Texas Woman's University Campus! Don't miss Doug Lipman, Tim Tingle, Carmen Deedy, Doc Moore, Donna Lively and James Ford and many more at the 23rd annual Texas Storytelling Festival. Experience a weekend of educational workshops, concerts, swaps, gift shop and much, much more!
The date for 2007 Tellabration was Saturday, November 17th!
Each year on the weekend in November just before Thanksgiving, the National Storytelling Network sponsors informal storytelling gathering across the country. IN churches, schools, auditoriums and homes, storytellers make time to celebrate story. If you are not part of a Tellabration event, we hope that as you gather with family and friends for your Thanksgiving meal, you will make sharing stories one of your traditions!
